"You never know how much you really believe a thing until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life & death to you." - C.S. Lewis
Ponder that for a moment. Each and everyday we live as if we still have plenty of time to do this or that. We make excuses to put off tomorrow what God wants us to do today, to put off confessing sins, to put off sharing our faith, and doing a good deed for someone. I know myself I often make the excuse, “oh I don’t need to worry about that now, I’ll be in ministry in a few years.” …Wow, am I full of crap.
Anyway I saw this as a tweet by John Piper today. If you are not following him on Twitter I highly recommend. Not only did this quote by the great apologist C.S. Lewis prompt me to think about what I should be doing today, but it really made me think of prayer and praise and worship. I don’t think I earnestly pray to and worship God like today was my last. Let’s face it though today may very well be my last, I don’t know what the future holds. James 4 says we are but a vapor in time and no one is promised tomorrow.
Ironic how we have a hard time believing God’s true promises for our lives and yet believe we are promised tomorrow when we are not. Live like your belief in Christ was a matter of life and death. Praise God and pray to him like you are in a POW camp with a gun to your head and God very well is your only way out. Because the truth is, our life is like that every single day. Satan, the enemy has us at gunpoint, feeding us lies and holding us captive, wanting nothing more than for us to denounce our salvation. We can’t win the war to fight for our life if we don’t call our Father for reinforcements.
