Is Blogging obsolete or irrelevant?

So almost a year ago I started my own blog. It chronicled my faith and walk in the Lord and for me was a way to share some things about my life, my faith, opinions, fun stuff, and all around what I would like to share with people but normally would not be able to. Well before that, in my very early high school career I had a blog on a site known as Xanga. That was my very first experience with a blog or any online network. That didn’t last too long before I joined Myspace and then Facebook and then I left Myspace because Facebook was “cleaner” in a sense.

Well the blog I had last year didn’t really last long. Only 3 or 4 people followed and I didn’t think it was worth it. Facebook seemed to make a blog obsolete. Why would I move to a separate site to blog when I could do that and more on Facebook right? While Facebook does have all those features it seems like its only living off of the microblogging concept like Twitter. Only, facebook can post more than 140 characters. I want to blog though. I have stuff I want to share in a way Facebook just falls short, if only status updates are given attention. Another thing though, am I being vain in wanting to have a blog? I honestly don’t have an answer to that.

So I’d like your feedback. Do you think blogging is worthwhile anymore because of Facebook and Twitter? Do you think I should keep a blog? And do you think blogging is vain? I will actually consider answers to that last question and whether I keep a blog or not will depend on what responses I get.

UPDATE: I originally started the new blog on Tumblr, couldn't get comments enabled and quickly came back to my old blog site. I now have comments on Tumblr and the page design is much better. Ignore this site and go to the http://mattharmon.tumblr.com/ I would still enjoy feedback on the matter of blogging though.
